Hearing Aid Styles

Depending on your degree of hearing loss and preferences, we may fit you with one of several hearing aid styles. Here are the more common styles of hearing aids available:

In-The-Ear (ITE)

These hearing aids fit in the outer ear. This model of hearing aid can be used in different degrees of hearing loss. Feedback cancellation and background noise reduction are advances in the industry that are included in many models.

In-The-Canal (ITC)

In-The-Canal (ITC) aids are similar, smaller devices that fit in the bottom half of the bowl of the ear. These models are not easily seen when in the ear and fit almost entirely in the ear canal. This style is great for individuals with a mild to moderate hearing loss.

Completely-In-The-Canal (CIC)

CIC aids are the least custom model of hearing aid. These small hearing aids are custom made to fit comfortably in the ear canal. Although virtually invisible to others, they provide excellent sound for people with mild to moderate hearing loss.

Receiver-In-Canal (RIC)

This hearing aid style rests behind the ear with a receiver that extends into the ear canal. These are ideal for those with low, mild to moderate high frequency hearing loss.

Behind-The-Ear (BTE)

BTE hearing aids provide more amplification than any other hearing aid style. It is widely used for almost all types of hearing loss.

Our audiologists and hearing specialists attend events with these manufacturers frequently, learning about the latest hearing aid technology and techniques. Where others may sell top hearing aids, the key to better hearing is how a hearing aid is selected for your hearing loss, then fitted and programmed. Programming adjustments are typically needed to tune digital hearing aids as you experience different real-world environments.

If you are a first-time hearing aid candidate, or your hearing aids are more than five years old, we’d like to see you to evaluate your current hearing and fit you for the latest hearing aids.
